How to make a DIY Plasma Cannon

Hello readers! I’m sure that at least once in your life, you have had the urge to make a plasma gun. This is one of the coolest things I’ve ever built, and it’s quite easy to make. In order to do so, you’ll require the following materials:

  • Transparent Plastic Hose
  • Blow torch
  • Butane gas
  • PVC Pipe
  • Rubber Bands
  • Electical tape
  • Plastic Bottle

Firstly, use tape to securely attach the hose pipe to the mouth of the gas torch. Use a hose of about 3 feet in length. Make sure it is an airtight seal (this will be important later on). Then, attach a plastic bottle—a firm one would be ideal—to the other side of the pipe, with a 0.5-inch diameter hole at the bottom of the bottle. Make sure you load the blowtorch before this step, as it will be tough to fill it once the components are attached. This can be done by pressing the butane gas canister’s nozzle to the refill spot on the torch. Make sure to wear eye protection and do it outdoors, far from any flame, as gas may leak out.

Next, attach the entire contraption to the PVC pipe to make it rigid. Use rubber bands to secure the loops in place. And voilà, you have successfully made a plasma popper. You may use spray paint and parts of old Nerf guns to make the cannon even more visually appealing, but I like the ‘exposed’ final look it had. This is how it turned out:

In order to fire it, open the gas valve and let the gas flow into the pipe and bottle. Do not exceed more than 3 seconds as it may be too much fuel and melt the bottle. After 3 seconds, use the igniter on the blowtorch to fire the cannon to life. Make sure you wear eye protection while doing this, and keep a fire extinguisher handy. If you do not have a fire extinguisher, a bucket of sand can do the trick. These are the final results, and let’s just say the results were better than expected:
